@AnnaEmert Well, you really helped me. I found a couple of other video tutorials on the pen but none of them explained it really well, having expected me to already be familiar with the tool, which I’m not. Now I’ve got past that part of the tutorial, but another part is confusing me. *goes to look for another tutorial* Thanks once again!

@LifesLover Thanks so much! It really does my heart good to have helped someone.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I’ve been trying to create a motion guided crayon using the pen tool from another tutorial, but that tutorial explains nothing about the pen tool or how to use it and I’ve been going nuts trying to figure out how to use it without making curves or fudging everything. Thank you so much, you’ve really helped me!

    Thanks! :-)

I’m learning Flash at the moment and up till now it’s been easy, but my book just breezes through the Pen Tool tutorial like it’s easy, whereas in fact it’s the least intuitive and most cantankerous thing I’ve ever used! Your video made it possible (not easy, nothing could manage that), but possible :-)

    thanks.

Naw |3 don’t mention it. It’s just my animating can be abit easier because the pen tool helps give you the straightest lines, making it a lot easier for me to move hair parts with out it going out of place, and your welcome.

Thank you for your kind words. I wish I would get off my rear and do some more of these videos for all who want them. Just been so busy. I am inspired when they help someone, so again thanks.

I understand. I love to draw and Flash is not my tool of choice for that. I use Xara, but if you have never used it it would be a learning curve, but easy to use once you know the basics. The file then can be imported into Flash as it is also an animation program.

Nah it’s just that the tool itself is so impossible, I tried the instructions from my book, asking friends, and looking for videos like yours but nothing helped, the best way to make curves is just to draw normal lines or polygons then using the arrow tool to bend them…:)

I am sorry that my video did not help you.

This tool is the worst tool ever, I’ve been trying for hours and it’s been driving me crazy, nothing’s more professional than MS Paint’s Curve Lines, I’d be better off drawing curves with the brush…

Haha! Don’t worry about it. Coding is very strict. Does it give you back errors? If so, which error(s) are you getting? It very well be an AS3 problem. Are you using Flash CS3? Try going to File>> Save As and choosing Flash 8 as opposed to Flash CS3 for the file format.

I never go it working even with the code you gave me. I think I am mixing AS2 and AS3 somehow in a output that is for the player that plays 2. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but have not had time to really study it. Sometimes I think I am not good at programing and should not even be trying.

Do you have a goal in particular of things that would need coding? I like to code games and things that generate art designs.

Thanks exactspace I appreciate the comment. Funny that you mention being a programmer. I have been drawing in Flash for years and want so much to learn to program. Have found some OK tutorials but MAN IS IT OVER MY HEAD STILL. Hope you are going to do some tutorials on the subject. =)

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I’ve been using Flash for years, mostly programming but I have always feared the pen tool not understanding how it works.
